Steel & Processing

From scrap to

STEEL

The production of quality, threaded and reinforcing steel occupies the central place in Max Aicher’s steel business segment.

Steel can be recycled any number of times – without any loss of quality – and is therefore an ideal material to be used in a closed internal production chain.

In addition to threaded and reinforcing steel for the construction industry, high-quality steel is produced in particular for the automotive, machine, tool and chain industries as well as plant construction and energy generation.

Wherever large-scale construction projects change the world, threaded steel from Max Aicher is used.

The value chain

1

step #1

Scrap presorting & preparation

The steel of the Max Aicher steel companies is melted exclusively from sorted scrap. Sorting and processing are carried out in the company’s own shearing, shredding and flame cutting systems, among other things. This ensures the self-sufficiency of the company’s own steel mills with scrap.

step #2

Steel production

At the Meitingen site, crude steel is produced as the basis for bar steel production. In addition, the production of high-quality, high-grade and reinforcing steel takes place here.

step #3

Recycling material management

Two by-products that are produced in steel production are filter dust and ladle slag. By processing the filter dust with a high zinc content, the recovered metal dust can be reused as a raw material in zinc smelters. The ladle slag, in turn, is recycled throughout Germany and used, for example, as a lime substitute in industry or as a lime fertilizer in agriculture.

Step #4

Steel refinement and processing

After leaving the rolling mill, part of the rolled bar steel is further processed into bright steel in the finishing plants or into threaded steel at steel mill subsidiaries.

step #5

Logistics/Cargo

As soon as the finished products have passed through quality control, they are delivered on time by truck or train by the logistics or cargo companies of the Max Aicher steel companies.
